Dr. Yu obtained his MD degree and MS in Biochemistry at Nanjing Medical University in China and had his Post-Doc studies in late 1980s and early 1990s at University of Wisconsin Medical School and Harvard University Medical School. He currently is a director of clinical immunology laboratory in Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes which is also current NIH/NIDDK designated North America Autoantibody/HLA Core laboratory. His major interests are focused on humoral autoimmune responses and HLA genetics in Type 1 Diabetes. Islet autoantibodies (currently known to insulin, GAD65, IA-2, and ZnT8) usually appear years before clinical onset of type 1 diabetes, therefore they are very important markers for islet autoimmunity and play an essential role in prediction, prevention, and clinical practice for diagnosis and treatment for type 1 diabetes. HLA is a well know major susceptible gene marker for type 1 diabetes. With early detection of islet autoantibodies and HLA genetic analysis, it will help to study natural history of the disease and to try understanding underlying mechanism of interaction between environmental aspects and immune system/genetics which will be important for the study of etiology of type 1 diabetes. Dr. Yu himself developed and set up all these autoantibody assays in the current laboratory and recently he has developed a new assay method for these autoantibody assays demonstrated more sensitive and more disease specific which has been patented through university.
Tech-transfer office and it will be used as a pilot study in NIH/NIDDK leaded national/international type 1 diabetes clinical trials for autoantibody screening. Dr. Yu also has studies on other related autoimmune diseases like Celiac disease through transglutaminase autoantibody study and Addison’s disease through 21-Hydroxilase autoantibody study. Dr.Yu does consulting about integrative east and west medicine for dibetis with Dr.Hou in EWMI now.

My name is Bruce Adams. I am 60 years old. In January of 2017 my PSA began to rise to 5.24. A prostate biopsy in Feb. of 2017 found 1 core of cancer with a Gleason score of 3 + 3 , considered to be the lowest score and a non aggressive type cancer. After consulting with my urologist , I decided to take the wait and see approach , as this low grade of cancer usually remains in the prostate and tends not to spread.
By January of 2018 my PSA rose to 11.24 .After consulting again my with my urologist and oncologist , their recomondations were to begin radiation treatment . After reviewing the possible side effects of radiation treatment , I began my research into alternative cancer treatments.
In February of 2018 , I decided on acupuncture and also TCM . I have used acupuncture and Chinese herbs in the past with much success so it was my first choice.
East West Medical Institute in Denver CO. is operated by Dr.Zhong Ping Hou. Dr. Hou has over 50 years of experience treating patients using integrative acupuncture and TCM, and was the first to use integrative TCM for cancer here in the United States.
.At that point my PSA had risen to 19.96. I decided to put my faith and trust into Dr. Hou’s integrative approach to healing cancer, which consists of acupuncture and Chinese herbs. After 3 months of bi weekly acupuncture treatments and herbs, my PSA had dropped to 9.57. I felt much better and I knew I was on the right track. By November of 2018 my PSA score was 4.30.
After consulting with Dr. Hou at this point we decided to change treatment to acupuncture once a week and to continue with the herbs. In March of 2019 , a little over a year since I began treatment with Dr. Hou my PSA is remaining stable at 4.43 which is just inside the normal range.
I will continue treatment with Dr. Hou and will add more exercise and diet changes in hopes of lowering my PSA even more. Dr. Hou has proven to me that with integrative TCM , results are possible if one has faith and patience. With my sincere appreciation and thanks for all of your research, treatments and care.
